Shea Butter Philippines

For my next DIY beauty project, I am planning to concoct my own body butter. In order for me to do that, I will be needing a key ingredient – shea butter. Finding affordable and high quality raw shea butter suppliers in the Philippines is quite a challenge. Luckily, I found Shea Butter Philippines. They offer raw, pure, unrefined shea butter in the following sizes:

  • 50g for 189
  • 100g for 299
  • 500g for 999
I decided to buy the smallest size from their online shop and received my order after a day (very fast transaction). I also sent them an email asking about the expiration of their product (because there is no expiry stamp on the product package) and they immediately replied to my inquiry saying that their shea butter will last for a year.

Shea Butter Philippines' raw and unrefined shea butter has a nutty scent and grainy texture. I read that it's only normal for shea butter to have grainy texture. Shea butter (and other vegetable butters like cocoa and mango butters) can become grainy when it partially melts and re-cools slowly causing it to crystallize. Fortunately, the crystallization does not change the good benefits of shea butter. However, grainy texture makes it hard to spread the shea butter on our skin. If you want a smoother texture, then you can temper the shea butter by melting it on a double boiler and quickly cool it on the refrigerator. Here is a video on how to do it.

I tested their shea butter for two weeks and I love the result because it made my skin smoother and moisturized for several hours. Word of caution, for those with oily skin like mine, you only need a tiny amount of this product to cover your entire face. Shea butter is a very heavy moisturizer, so a little goes a long way. What I always do is I use facial blotting papers to remove the excess oil after applying shea butter on my face.

  2. Thanks Ba Cisse for dropping by on my blog :) My local supplier also imports their raw unrefined shea butter from Ghana, Africa. I really love its quality and a little amount is needed to moisturize my face and body.

  3. It is okay to use it at night and stay it overnight? And it is true that it can lighten dark spots?

    1. It depends on your skin type. If you have dry skin, your skin will benefit from the heavy moisturization of shea butter if you use it at night and leave it overnight. If you have oily skin like mine, I noticed that I sometimes get skin breakouts when I leave it overnight. Actually, I just use shea butter now on my body more than on my face.

Shea butter is rich in Vitamin A which is the key ingredient in anti-aging creams to reduce the appearance of blemishes and dark spots. I don't have dark spots but I noticed that when I apply shea butter on fresh scars, it somehow lightens in appearance over time. It takes time to see the result so just need to be patient.
