Amazing Benefits of Owning a Dog

I
used to be so scared of dogs until one day my younger sister had brought home a
very cute male Pomeranian puppy. He is so adorable that I wanted to hold him the
first time I saw him but I was reluctant to try. I was afraid that he might
bite me. However, this tiny Pomeranian simply didn’t want to give up. Every
single day, he approached me with a big smile on his face while wagging his
pom-pom tail. He had exerted big effort to get closer to me and it didn’t take
long for him to succeed. He had helped me conquer my fear of dogs. I’m happy to
say that I am now a dog lover. The joy that our dog brings to me and my family is
priceless.
Having
said that, this post aims to enumerate the health benefits of owning a dog. If you’re
considering to buy or adopt a puppy, then I hope that the following benefits
will seal the deal for you.
Physical Benefits
Reduce Stress
It
really feels good to have your dog patiently waiting for you when you get home
from work. Your stress will simply melt away as soon your dog jumps into your
lap and begs you to pet them. It’s like their way of telling you to leave your
worries behind and just focus your attention to them. Definitely, dogs can help
reduce your daily stress in life which can eventually lead to a lower blood
pressure.
Increase Physical Activity
Having a super active dog can encourage you to exercise more. Walking or playing with your dog for few minutes every day can greatly improve both you and your dog’s cardiovascular health.
Detect Cancer
We all know that dogs have very strong sense of smell that’s why we have K9 dogs (also known as police dogs) that are specifically trained to sniff bombs. In the same way, dogs can also be trained to sniff out cancer in humans. How is that possible? Some studies show that cancerous cells release metabolic waste products that emit a certain smell either through our skin, urine or breath. Dogs can be trained to identify the presence of cancerous cells in human body by sniffing out this specific scent.
Emotional Benefits
Reduce Depression and Loneliness
Dogs have empathy and they really do care if you are unhappy or feeling depressed. They are attentive to your emotional state. They try to comfort you when you need them the most. They know how to do silly things just to make you laugh and forget all of your problems.
Feel Safer
Dogs are very protective of their owners so they can be considered as the best personal bodyguard. Their keen sense of hearing can detect and deter burglars from entering your home.
Teach Us to Be Patient and Responsible
Raising a dog is like raising your own child. It takes lot of patience and responsibility especially when they are still puppies. You have to feed them on time, to groom them and to train them to have better manners. Most importantly, you need to have them vaccinated annually for them to become healthy dogs. If you love your dogs, then you have to be a responsible owner.

Social Benefits
Gain More Friends
Taking your dog to the park or mall is an effective way to gain new friends who are fellow dog lovers. Most people simply can’t resist taking a second look whenever they see cute dogs walking with their owners. It’s also not unusual for people to notice the dog first before his owner. At the same time, this is also a perfect opportunity for your dog to interact with other dogs. Who knows, both you and your dog might find their perfect other half through this kind of social interactions.
Create Stronger and Happier Family
I can attest to the fact that dogs can make the family bond stronger. Since the arrival of our dog in our family, our household becomes livelier thanks to his antics that never fail to bring a smile to our faces. Our furry pal is more than just a pet, in fact, my mother always emphasizes that our dog is the youngest member of the family and we treat him as such.
Indeed, dogs deserve the title of “man’s best friend”. They love you unconditionally and stay by your side no matter what happens.
