Prepaid Health Cards in the Philippines

I firmly believe in the saying “Health is Wealth”. Our health is the most important asset we could possibly have yet most of us take it for granted. Sickness can come without a moment’s notice. Once it does come to you, you not only worry about your health but also about the large medical expenses that are associated with hospital confinement.

I’m very fortunate that the company I’m working for includes HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) coverage as part of its employee benefit package. The HMO card enables me to have free consultations with accredited doctors and waived hospitalization costs as long as I didn’t exhaust yet my card’s Maximum Benefit Limit (MBL).

If you are a freelancer or small business owner, then chances are you want to avail an HMO card but can’t afford its annual premium. Just to give you a quick idea, if you are in your 20's, the average HMO annual premium is around 15-20k. That is a large amount to bear especially if you have just started out as a freelancer with no stable income yet. Also, the HMO annual premium increases as you get older. Luckily, there are now prepaid health cards that are being offered by some HMO companies in the Philippines. The prepaid health cards can be bought at an affordable price and most of them are for one-time emergency use only.
