During
the early days of ECQ (Enhanced
Community Quarantine) in the Philippines, most food establishments were closed.
The only options for you to eat is either you cook your own food or have your meals
delivered via food delivery app like Grab Food or Food Panda. Most of the
time, I prefer the food delivery option since I don’t always have the energy to
cook when I’m working. However, at that time, only few restaurants were
available for delivery.
Luckily,
some restaurants have started to adapt with the quarantine situation by
offering their customers frozen version of their food menu. Aside from
restaurants, there are also a couple of homebased food businesses who also sell
frozen meals. One example I recently discovered is InstafaMEALy Kitchen.
InstafaMEALy Kitchen is a family-owned business started by a
husband-and-wife team with a goal of providing delicious and affordable
homecooked meals that you can just heat (in the microwave) and serve in 10
minutes. Their business idea actually started even before the coronavirus
pandemic. It all began in 2017 when the couple have found out how convenient it
is to make freezer meals. Freezer meals refer to cooking meals in large batches
then portioning them into smaller servings that can be frozen for future
consumption. Eventually, they have decided to offer the same convenience of
heat-and-eat frozen meals to the Filipino consumers which gave birth to InstafaMEALy Kitchen.
InstafaMEALy Kitchen affordable homecooked frozen meals are free
from MSG and preservatives. They are packaged in microwaveable containers so
you can just simply reheat them in the microwave, easy-peasy right? Each frozen
meal is good for 2 to 3 people. Their menu varies weekly and various types of
dishes are available (e.g. beef, chicken, pork, seafood, dessert, pasta, etc.).
The frozen meals have pretty good shelf life so you can actually stock them in
your freezer for a month (FYI, expiry date is indicated on each meal
packaging).
I
have personally tried some of their frozen meals and some of my favorites are
the Spicy Korean Pork with Cheese
and the Crab and Corn Croquette. All
the meals I have tried so far are delicious and taste fresh that you wouldn’t
think they are frozen in the first place. I can’t wait to try their other
frozen meals ^_^
