When people buy their dinnerware, their usual options are either glass, ceramic, porcelain or melamine materials. Recently, I’ve been seeing more people getting interested in buying wooden dinnerware. Aside from they’re eco-friendly and affordable, wooden dinnerware also adds a natural look and a touch of traditional Filipino feel to your dining table.
One
local store that sells handcrafted wooden dinnerware made from durable and
sustainable acacia wood is Matila.Co. I have personally bought their wooden coaster and
I’m very satisfied with its quality. The coaster fits perfectly to my largest
mug and deep enough to provide a trap for catching condensation from cold drinks.
Take
note though that wood is a natural material so color and grain varies. This
means that no wooden dinnerware will be exactly identical. Wooden dinnerware
needs more TLC to prevent them from cracking or warping. In order to preserve
the beauty of your wooden dinnerware, you can occasionally rub them with
beeswax furniture polish (which is food safe).
Also, water is the worst enemy of any wooden materials, so make sure to wipe
off the water after washing them and let them air dry thoroughly.
Here
are some of the wooden dinnerware offered by Matila.Co.
